**August 2020**

School will begin in the fall under Plan B/C which allows the School Systems to open in part with guidelines on distancing and protection. Avery County Schools will open with modified guidelines and allow for the safest way for students and teachers to attend.

August 16, 2020 – 5 pm – Back To School Prayer Rally will take place. Parents, Students, and Teachers of each school encouraged to go to their school and join the Facebook LIVESTREAM on our Facebook page that will be live at the High School as Pastors will gather and pray for our Community Schools, for the students and staff, and this 2020 School Year. August 17, 2020 – FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. Avery High (in-session) will only meet with Freshmen, this will serve as an orientation day of school. All in-session students report on Tuesday, August 18.

NCHSAA announced that they will delay beginning Athletics until mid-September, an announcement regarding NCHSAA athletics is scheduled for Monday, August 17.

The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start.  There are many locations throughout the county for folks to attend.  For more information or a full list of the SCOTTIE schedule, contact the Board of Education at 733-6006
