**Education Calendar Listing at Bottom of Calendar**

Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a home repair ministry based out of Johnson City, TN, and will repair homes FREE of charge again this summer for Avery and Mitchell County families! Using volunteer labor and the leadership of summer staff, ASP hopes to work for 12 or more families in the area- so take action to apply now. Appalachia Service Project will be working actively in Avery County from early June through late July.  For Information on the Appalachia Service Project CLICK HERE

Every Sunday afternoon, the HWY 181 Motorcycle Rest Stop Ministry will be open from 12 noon to 6 pm offering refreshments to Bikers passing by.  All welcome to come out, located at the old John Deere Dealership near the Parkway, open May through October.

March 31, 2015 – 1:30 to 6 pm - There will be an American Red Cross Blood Drive at the Altamont UMC in the Outreach Center.  Walk-ins welcome, appointments can be made by calling 733-5912

**April 2015**

April 1, 2015 – 10 am to 3 pm - There will be an American Red Cross Blood Drive at Avery County High School.

April 1, 2015 – 7 pm - Pleasant Hill Bapt. Church in the Frank Community will be holding an encore of their Easter Drama, “This Same Jesus”, at the church.  This is presented by the young adults and all are invited and welcome to attend this inspiring event.

April 2, 2015 – 4 pm - There will be an Apple Pruning Workshop held on Doug Hundley’s Farm, this will be hosted by the Avery County Cooperative Extension Service. This is a free workshop and all are welcome.  Call 733-8270 for more information.

April 2, 2015 – 7 pm - There will be a Tenebrae Service to be held at Elk Park Christian Church Thursday, April 2 at 7 pm. This is a service to remember the suffering of our Lord before his crucifixion and resurrection. All are welcome.
April 3, 2015 – 7 to 9 pm - The Crossnore Jam will take place at the meeting house in Crossnore.  All are welcome, bring your instrument and enjoy the music.

April 3-4, 2015 – 7 pm nightly - Berry Chapel Bapt. Church in Spruce Pine will hold their Easter Drama, “The Living Lord’s Supper”, at the church.  This is the 29th year of the presentation and nursery is provided.  For more information or for group reservations call the church at 765-6590 and leave a message.

April 4, 2015 – 11 am - 11:00 am – There will be a Kid’s Easter Egg hunt at Tate-Evans Park in Banner Elk

April 4, 2015 - Newland FBC will hold a “Walk with Jesus” event for Families.  All are welcome to join them as they follow Jesus’ footsteps through his last days on earth.  From Palm Sunday to the Resurrection.  For more information contact Jessica Howard at 260-6730

April 4, 2015 – 7 to 10 am - The Altamont UMC will begin their monthly country breakfast in the Outreach Center, all are invited and welcome to join.

April 5, 2015 – 6:30 am - The Pisgah Easter Sunrise Service will be held at Pisgah United Methodist Church between Altamont and Linville Falls on HWY 221.  Breakfast will follow in the fellowship hall, all are invited.

April 5, 2015 – 6:30 am - The Elk Park Community Sunrise Service will be held at Heaton Christian Church.  Light Breakfast will follow, all are welcome.

April 5, 2015 – 7 am - Sunrise Service at Calvary FWB Church in Glendale Springs, located at 3044 Old Wilkesboro Rd, just across from Raccoon Holler Campground.   Service will be followed by a time of fellowship in the fellowship hall and all are welcome to attend. April 10, 2015 – 6 pm - There will be a lock-in at Newland FBC for kids ages K-5.  All kids are welcome to come out and join in the fun.  Contact Jessica Howard for more information at 260-6730

April 11-12, 2015 – 7 pm, Sat.; 11 am and 6:30 pm, Sun. - Plumtree Presbyterian is having a special guest speaker who moves very powerfully in the prophetic. Jim Reilly has a heart to see the church reach her fullest potential. Jim  has ministered prophetically for over 30 years. Jim and his wife Rachel will be at Plumtree on Saturday, April 11th at 7:00 pm and on Sunday April 12th at 11:00 am and 6:30 pm. Everyone is welcome.

April 13-16, 2015 – 6 pm to 9 pm nightly - There will be a Beginning Bee Keeping workshop for those interested in starting to keep honeybees.  This will be held at the Avery Senior Center and is designed for those who are beginning to keep bees.  Call 733-8270 for more information.

April 25, 2015 – 1 pm - the 2015 Elizabethton First FWB Church Golf Classic will take place at Elizabethton Golf Course.  Cost is $50 per player and all are welcome.  You may sign up as a team or individually.  Format will be Captain’s Choice and Mulligans are available at $5/each.  For more information or to sign up contact Gene Renfro at 423-335-2076 or by email at gerenfro@gmail.com

April 26-29, 2015 – 9:45 am and 6 pm Sunday, 7 pm Mon. to Wed. – REVIVAL - Pleasant Hill Bapt. Church will be holding revival services with Dr. Mike Bagwell from Tunnel Hill, GA.  The Edwards Family from Burnsville will be singing during the Sunday Morning Service.  All are welcome!

May 2, 2015 – 5:30 pm - The Avery County Chapter of Hunters Helping Kids will hold their annual banquet at the Hugh Chapman Center of the Williams’ YMCA.  Doors open at 5:30 pm and ticket prices are as follows: Single, $15; Couple, $25; Youth 11-15, $10; Youth 11-under, FREE: Sponsor, $200; Corporate Sponsor, $500; for more information contact Tony Hunter at 387-1401 or Adeda Johnson at 733-0834

The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start.  There are many locations throughout the county for folks to attend.  For more information or a full list of the SCOTTIE schedule, contact the Board of Education at 733-6006
