“Left Behind in the High Country” meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Oak Room of the Sloop Medical Building at Cannon Memorial Hospital. This is a support group for those who have lost a loved one to suicide, for more information contact Sandra Brock at 467-5379.

**The FIRST GRADUATING CLASS of Avery County High School will have a 50th Class Reunion next year. September 22, 2018 – 11:30 am – The Rock United Community Church will present the Warrior Women Ladies’ Conference at the Church, all ladies are invited to attend. Please RSVP to the Church’s Facebook Event Page.

September 22, 2018 – 5:30 to 8:30 pm – The Annual Music in the Mountain Folk Festival will take place in Burnsville, Great Lineup of music with many activities for all ages, all are welcome. Click HERE for more information.

September 22, 2018 – 7 pm – God’s House of Worship in Banner Elk will hold a special singing at the church with The Believers and Mercy River, all are invited to attend.

September 23, 2018 – 11 am – Minneapolis Christian Church will hold Homecoming Services at the Church, there will be a meal following morning worship, all are welcome.

September 23, 2018 – 11 am – Elk Park Christian Church will hold Homecoming, all are welcome. This was rescheduled from September 16, due to the weather conditions.

September 23-26, 2018 – 6 pm nightly – REVIVAL – Revival Continues at Newland Christian Church with Bro. Jonathan Casstevens bringing the message.  Continuing revival that begun Sept. 9-14; All are invited and welcome.

September 26, 2018 – 7:45 am – Avery High FCA/UIC will host See You at the Pole at Avery High, all are welcome to join the students as they worship and pray.

September 29, 2018 – 11 am until – Benefit BBQ Dinner hosted by Jonas Ridge FD to help raise money for 21 Y/O FD member Jeremy Hernandez to help with medical bills; Cost is $8/plate, $5/kids, BBQ or Hot Dog Plate Available, all the fixings and sides; will take place at Mountaineer Equipment Building in Pineola.

October 6, 2018 – ALL DAY – Mt. Calvary FWB in the Ingalls Community will hold their Harvest Day at the Church, will begin with Country Breakfast at 7 am and continue with Activities, Lunch and Dinner on the grounds; all are invited.

October 6, 2018 – 11 am to 1 pm – The Avery Humane Society will be hosting a Low-Cost Shot Clinic at the Center. For more information call 733-2333

October 7, 2018 – 1 pm to 4 pm – The Morganton Seventh Day Adventist Church will hold a Car and Truck Show at the church, Free event with Door Prizes.

October 19, 2018 – 6 pm to 9 pm – FBC Newland will host a Parent’s Night Out, for more information call Jessica Howard at 260-6730 or the Church Office at 733-9092

October 20, 2018 – 3 pm to 10 pm – The 2nd Annual Blue Ridge Bluegrass Festival will take place at Buck Stove in Spruce Pine.  Featuring Hosts Darin and Brooke Aldridge with special guests: John Cowen, Knoxville’s Original Quartet Band, Newfound Road Band, and more. The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start.  There are many locations throughout the county for folks to attend.  For more information or a full list of the SCOTTIE schedule, contact the Board of Education at 733-6006

September 21, 2018 – 6 pm – Avery High FCA/UIC will host a Youth vs Pastors Blacklight Volleyball game in Viking Gym

September 22, 2018 – 8 am to 12 noon – The Avery Viking Basketball Team will hold a fundraising Car Wash at Carquest in Newland.  All proceeds will go to help the program

September 29, 2018 – 3 pm – The Avery Viking Marching Band will host the Annual Viking Classic Tournament of Bands on the field at MacDonald Stadium, all are welcome to come out for a great day!

October 5, 2018 – 7:30 pm – HOMECOMING – Avery High Football Team will host HOMECOMING at MacDonald Stadium.

October 6, 2018 – 4 pm to 8 pm – The Avery High FFA will hold a fundraising BBQ Dinner at Newland FBC, all are invited to come out and help them raise funds to go to the National Convention.
