Now Through December – There will be a Toy Drive to collect toys for the Children’s Hospital in Johnson City. You can drop off New Toys at Brenda Kays Crafts in Newland; There will be a truck parked in the Ingles Parking Lot in Newland from Dec. 10 until the delivery date (Dec. 17) as well.
The Blue Ridge Partnership for Children is currently holding a Wreath Sale to support the Imagination Library, wreaths are all locally made, cost $18/each, and will help buy books for the Library. The Congregation of Linville United Methodist Church, located at 126 Ruffin St., across from Hampton Store, invite everyone to come join them at 9:50 am on Sunday Mornings for an uplifting experience in hearing the unique and scriptural message of Christmas with Pastor Ted Henry. December 2, 2016 – 7 to 9 pm – The Crossnore Jam will take place at the Crossnore Meeting House, all are invited to come and join in a great time of fellowship and music. Held the first Friday of each month.
December 2-3, 2016 – The Town of Banner Elk will hold “A Small Town Christmas” Festival. Friday night at 6 pm there will be caroling and a tree lighting ceremony, Saturday will begin with the Williams’ YMCA Reindeer Run 5k and conclude with a parade of lights at 6 pm. December 4, 2016 – 6 pm – The Primitive Quartet will be in concert at Bethel Missionary Bapt. Church during evening service. All are welcome.
December 9, 2016 – 6 pm – There will be Tree Lighting Ceremony and Christmas Festivities on the Town Square in Newland. There will also be tree decorating contests, carols, Live Music and more. All are invited. For more information on local events, go to http://www.greaternewland.org
December 9, 2016 – 6 pm – All are invited to come join around the Christmas Bonfire at the Crossnore Meeting House for Fellowship, and Cider, all are welcome!
December 10, 2016 – 3 to 5 pm – Linville UMC will hold a special Christmas Experience at the Church, located at 126 Ruffin Street in Linville; There will be special music with Tommy Hartley on piano, Rev. Ted Henry and others. All are welcome, refreshments will be served. There will also be a Bethlehem Town experience in the lower level.
December 11, 2016 – 6 pm – Bethel Missionary Bapt. Church presents the play “This Man Jesus” at the church celebrating the life of Jesus Christ from His Birth to His Death. All are welcome.

The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start. December 2, 2016 – 8:30 am to 1:30 pm – There will be an American Red Cross Blood Drive at Avery County High School sponsored by HOSA, to sign up, call Susan Hawkins at Avery High at 733-0151
December 9, 2016 – Avery High FBLA will be sponsoring the 3rd annual Teddy Bear toss during halftime of the men’s varsity basketball game on December 9th. Toss new or gently used stuffed animals on the court and they will be donated to make Christmas a little brighter for Avery County children.
