Now through March 23, 2018 – Avery Parks and Recreation Department is holding Signups for Tar Heel Youth Softball and Baseball, 10U and 12U Softball and Baseball Ages 13-15 are available, Sign-up fee is $40, contact the Avery Parks and Rec (733-8266) for more information or to sign up your youth.
Elk River Outreach Ministries now has a church in the Hampton, Tenn. area, Service times are 6 pm on Sunday and 7 pm on Thursday evenings. All are welcome. Elk River Ministries host “Living by Faith” each Sunday afternoon on Glory1130.
March 16, 2018 – 6 pm – The Rock United Community Church in Newland will be holding a Night of Worship at the church. All are invited to come out for a great Evening of Praise and Worship, The Word of God, Prayer, Fellowship, Refreshments and Much, Much More! March 17, 2018 – 4 pm to 7 pm – There will be a Poor Man’s Supper at Mt. Calvary FWB Church in Ingalls, just below Avery County Airport; all are invited out for a great night of fellowship, live music during the event.
March 17, 2018 – 7 pm – Evolution Championship Wrestling returns to the Rock Gym in Newland. All are welcome to come out for a great night of fun! Cost $10/each, doors open at 6:15 pm.
March 19, 2018 – 5 pm to 9 pm – The Avery High Chorus will be holding a fundraiser at Pizza Inn in Elizabethton. Part of the evening sales and all tips will go to the ACHS Chorus to help send them to the festival in April. All invited!
March 22, 2018 – 10 am to 4:30 pm – The NC Cooperative Extension Service will hold an “Untangling Food Safety” Workshop at the Mountain Horticultural Crops Research and Extension Center in Mills River, NC. Register online by March 19, click here for more information or call 733-8270
March 24, 2018 – 7 pm – God’s House of Worship in Banner Elk will hold a special singing at the church; singing will be Fully Persuaded and Bought with a Price. Everyone invited to come out and worship.
March 25, 2018 – 12 noon – Newland FBC will hold their Easter Egg Hunt and Luncheon at the Church following morning worship. All invited.
March 27, 2018 – 7 pm – Award winning historian Michael C. Hardy will be at the Avery County Morrison Library discussing his new book, “Kirk’s Civil War Raids along the Blue Ridge”. All are welcome to come out and hear about the history of these raids, some of which took place in Avery County. Books will be available for purchase, program is free and open to public.
March 29, 2018 – 6 pm – Elk Park Christian Church will hold its annual Tenebrae Service on Thursday, March 29th, at 6 pm. This is a meaningful service focusing on the suffering of Christ before the crucifixion. All are welcome to attend

The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start.
