Every Sunday afternoon, the HWY 181 Motorcycle Rest Stop Ministry will be open from 12 noon to 6 pm offering refreshments to Bikers passing by. All welcome to come out, located at the old John Deere Dealership near the Parkway, open May through October.
Blue Ridge Partnership for Children is bringing Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to the High Country. The program serves children from birth until their 5th birthday, and each registered child will receive a FREE monthly book in the mail. If you are interested you can register your child online at http://www.imaginationlibrary.com or call Carrie Hall at 733-2899 and she will assist you in the registration process.

Please stop and pick up a “Heart” from the Gifts from the Heart tree. They are located at the Newland and Linville Post Offices, as well as the lobby of the Sloop Medical Plaza at Cannon Memorial Hospital, just outside the Williams’ YMCA. This program benefits Senior Citizens and Disabled Adults in Avery County. Please pick your heart and return the gifts to the location you selected the heart, they will be delivered by the committee for Valentine’s Day.

February 13, 2016 – 4 pm until 6:30 pm – There will be a Benefit Supper for Benny Benfield and Family at the Family Life Center at Crossnore Bapt. Church. All are invited to come help raise funds for this family during their time of need.
February 14, 2016 – 6:30 pm – Plumtree Presbyterian Church will hold a healing service on Valentine’s Day at the church, All are invited to come out and be a part of the service, come expecting a miracle.
February 14-17, 2016 – 11 am and 6 pm Sunday, 7 pm Monday to Wednesday – Calvary Free Will Baptist Church in Glendale will hold their “Threefold Cord” Couples Conference, February 14-17 at the church. This event will kick off during the Sunday Morning service on February 14 at 11 am, and will continue with evening sessions, beginning at 6 pm on Sunday, and 7 pm Monday through Wednesday. February 16, 2016 – 6 pm – The Sons of Confederate Veterans will meet at the Burnsville Town Center, the group meets the third Tuesday of each month.
March 5, 2016 – 4 pm – The Avery Viking Band will host a Dodgeball Tournament at the High School to raise funds for the band. Cost is $60/per 5 person team, teams will compete in two divisions; You can download and complete registration form HERE or see any band member to enter. The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start. February 11, 2016 – 4 pm – The Avery Basketball teams will host Mitchell in the final Regular Season game of the year. It will be Senior Night for the Vikings. Come out and Support the Boosters during the evening as well, they will be holding a Spaghetti Dinner in the cafeteria from 4 pm until the end of the Varsity Girls action.
