Every Sunday afternoon, the HWY 181 Motorcycle Rest Stop Ministry will be open from 12 noon to 6 pm offering refreshments to Bikers passing by.  All welcome to come out, located at the old John Deere Dealership near the Parkway, open May through October.

Blue Ridge Partnership for Children is bringing Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to the High Country.  The program serves children from birth until their 5th birthday, and each registered child will receive a FREE monthly book in the mail.  If you are interested you can register your child online at or call Carrie Hall at 733-2899 and she will assist you in the registration process.

The Banner Elk Chamber of Commerce will continue their 2nd Saturday Events throughout the summer during 2016.  The second Saturday of each month will have special events and discounts throughout Banner Elk, for more information go to or call 898-8395.

**July 2016**

July 18, 2016 – 7 pm nightly – REVIVAL – Pilgrim Bapt. Church will open revival at the church, all are welcome; will go as long as the Lord leads.

July 23, 2016 – 5 pm – The Carey’s Flat Coon Club, Roan Mountain Houndsman Association, and Hunters Helping Kids will hold a Kids Day at the Old Cranberry  School.  There will be a roll cage event, bench show, dash race and treeing contest; raffle for the kids and free food for kids as well

July 24-28, 2016 – 5:00 nightly – VBS – Altamont UMC will hold Vacation Bible School at the Church; there will be food at 5 pm, VBS begins at 5:30 pm each evening. Wednesday evening will have VBS at 5 pm with a cookout to follow, for more information contact Ginny Braswell at 260-2284

July 25-29, 2016 – CAMP CHAMP – Camp Champ will be held at the Minneapolis Bapt. Church Candlestick Retreat Center.  Camp is for 13-17 year old students and is $150/overnight campers, $110 for day campers; Call 737-9304 for more information or to register.

July 28, 2016 – Mayland Community College Foundation will hold a fundraising event at the Linville Falls Winery.  Includes a meal, for more information contact the Foundation at 766-1233 or by going to for more information.

July 29, 2016 – 5 pm – The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Avery County will take place on the track at Avery High School.

July 29, 2016 to August 6, 2016 – 7:30 pm nightly – REVIVAL – Holy Ghost Tent Revival at the Go Cart Track across from Loven on HWY 181 in Pineola, no Sunday Services, all are welcome.

July 31, 2016 – 10 am – Belview Baptist Church will be having Youth Sunday service on Sunday July 31st at 10am. Remington Austin will be preaching in the morning worship service. There will be a lunch after the morning service.

July 31, 2016 – 1 pm to 3 pm – There will be a benefit dinner at the Candlestick Retreat Center at Minneapolis Bapt. Church to raise money for David Mayberry and his medical expenses.  Menu will include BBQ and the fixings. There will be door prizes and a silent auction as well.  All welcome.

**August 2016**

August 6, 2016 – 8 am – Cannon Memorial Hospital will hold the Inaugural Swing for Scholarships Golf Tournament at Linville-Land Harbor Golf Club.  Cost is $65/player, and deadline for entry is July 31, 2016.  There will also be a silent auction during the event and all proceeds will go to raise money for local students who aspire to be in a medical field.

August 6, 2016 – 10 am – VBS – Belview Baptist Church will be having Vacation Bible School on Saturday August 6th at 10am. Lunch and Dinner will be served. For more information contact Pastor Mike Ricker at 385-2645.

August 7, 2016 – 6 pm Sunday, 7 pm Nightly – YOUTH REVIVAL – Mt. Calvary FWB Church in Spruce Pine will hold a Youth Revival at the church, Pastors Jeremiah Carver and Jim Shoupe invite everyone to attend.

August 20, 2016 – 5 pm – There will be a Gospel Singing at Jack Hicks Trucking in Elk Park with The Primitive Quartet, Archie Watkins and Smoky Mountain Reunion, The Inspirations, and KC and the Elk Valley Boys; There will be food and a love offering will be taken; All proceeds will go to the Tri-State Children’s Home, all are welcome, bring a lawn chair and an empty stomach.

August 20, 2016 – 5:30 pm – The Avery County Chapter of Hunters Helping Kids will hold their Annual Banquet at the YMCA Chapman Center, cost is $15/single, $25/couple, and sponsorship rates are available at $200/sponsor, $500/corporate sponsor; children 11-15, $10; children 10 and under, free.  for more information call Tony Hunter at 387-1401 or Aneda Johnson at 733-0834

August 27, 2016 – 3 pm – The 4th Annual Pleasant Hill Bapt. Youth Rally will take place at the Tri-County Tabernacle in Spruce Pine, speaking during the evening will be Preacher Steven Aldridge and Evangelist Cody Zorn; All are invited, and for more information call Pastor Allen Laws at 385-1401.
