Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a home repair ministry based out of Johnson City, TN, and will repair homes FREE of charge again this summer for Avery and Mitchell County families! Using volunteer labor and the leadership of summer staff, ASP hopes to work for 12 or more families in the area- so take action to apply now. Appalachia Service Project will be working actively in Avery County from early June through late July.  For Information on the Appalachia Service Project CLICK HERE

Every Sunday afternoon, the HWY 181 Motorcycle Rest Stop Ministry will be open from 12 noon to 6 pm offering refreshments to Bikers passing by.  All welcome to come out, located at the old John Deere Dealership near the Parkway, open May through October.

March 2, 2015 – 5-7 pm - Fundraiser for the Cranberry Middle 8th grade at Pizza Inn in Elizabethton.

March 6, 2015 – 7 to 9 pm - The Crossnore Jam will take place at the Crossnore Meeting House.  All are welcome to come and enjoy a night of singing, dancing, playing, or just listening.  Bring your instrument, dancing shoes, or just a listening ear and come join the fun; it happens the first Friday of the month year round.

March 7, 2015 – 6 pm - Newland FBC will host a Young Adult dinner at Carolina BBQ.  All Young Adults, Families and Children are welcome to join.

March 7, 2015 – 7 pm - There will be a benefit singing at Crossnore Bapt. Church with Darin and Brooke Aldridge, KC and the Elk Valley Boys, and The Peacemakers.  This will be a benefit for Peyton Taylor Buchanan to help offset her costs from cancer treatments. March 8, 2015 – 6 pm - Darin and Brooke Aldridge will be singing at Bethel Missionary Bapt. Church in Spruce Pine during the evening service.  All are welcome!

March 13, 2015 – 6 pm until - There will be a fundraising Rook Tournament at the DAV in Newland for Peyton Taylor Buchanan.  Cost will be $20/team; there will be BBQ available at $6/plate as well.  All proceeds will go to help with Peyton’s medical bills.

March 19, 2015 – 7 pm - The Harlem Globetrotters will be playing at Appalachian State University.  Newland FBC is getting a group together to attend, any who would like to join them may call Jessica Howard at 260-6730.

**April 2015**

April 4, 2015 - Newland FBC will hold a “Walk with Jesus” event for Families.  All are welcome to join them as they follow Jesus’ footsteps through his last days on earth.  From Palm Sunday to the Resurrection.  For more information contact Jessica Howard at 260-6730

April 18, 2015 - Crossnore Elementary will hold a Yard Sale Fundraiser.  More details as the date draws near.

The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start.  There are many locations throughout the county for folks to attend.  For more information or a full list of the SCOTTIE schedule, contact the Board of Education at 733-6006

March 3, 2015 – 6 pm – The Avery Viking Basketball team will travel to Hayesville to compete in the 3rd Round of NCHSAA State Playoffs as they look to get to the Regional Round for the second straight year.

March 6, 2015 – 8:30 am to 2:30 pm - Crossnore Elementary School is inviting all WWII and Korean War Veterans to come in and be interviewed by the 4th Grade class.  There will be food provided.  All of the interviews will go to compile a history book of our local veterans.  If any Veteran needs transporation, the school will provide a ride to and from the school.  Please call 737-7204 to RSVP to the school so that they can make sure things go quickly and they have enough food.

March 9, 2015 – 6 pm - All 8th grade students and their parents are invited to attend the annual ACHS 8th Grade Parent Night on Monday, March 9th, beginning at 6pm in the high school Cafeteria. Students and parents will have the opportunity to learn more about the 9th grade registration process and sign-up for a time to meet one-on-one with a member of the ACHS Student Services Department to register for classes. Guest speakers will share information about what students and parents can expect during the freshman year. Refreshments will be provided. Please make plans to attend and feel free to call the high school if you have any questions.

TBD - ACHS is having a Registration Fair in the school cafeteria.  All current 9th – 11th grade students and parents are strongly encouraged to attend.  All Career Technical Education, clubs, and Academic departments will be represented to answer questions and all Student Services personnel will be available to assist.  Parent meetings will take place in the mini theater by grade level and instructions will be provided as to how to complete the registration process.  Mrs. Libby Gragg is hosting a meeting beginning at 5:30 in the Media Center for all current Juniors and parents to discuss college readiness.
