Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a home repair ministry based out of Johnson City, TN, and will repair homes FREE of charge again this summer for Avery and Mitchell County families! Using volunteer labor and the leadership of summer staff, ASP hopes to work for 12 or more families in the area- so take action to apply now. Appalachia Service Project will be working actively in Avery County from early June through late July.  For Information on the Appalachia Service Project CLICK HERE

Every Sunday afternoon, the HWY 181 Motorcycle Rest Stop Ministry will be open from 12 noon to 6 pm offering refreshments to Bikers passing by.  All welcome to come out, located at the old John Deere Dealership near the Parkway, open May through October.

High Country Trolley Tours will be offered this summer through the Avery County Chamber of Commerce, Dates will be June 25, July 23, August 27 and September 17.  You may call the Avery Co. Chamber to reserve your spot, 898-5605

**May 2015**

May 25, 2015 – 7 pm nightly – REVIVAL – Lewis Chapel FWB Church will hold revival at the church beginning on May 25 and going as long as the Lord leads.  Bro. Justin Hodges will be bringing the message each evening and there will be special singing each night.  All are invited and welcome. For more information contact Pastor Jonathan Sheppard at 387-5692.

May 30, 2015 – 7 am to 10 am – Mt. Calvary FWB Church in the Ingalls community will hold a Country Breakfast Fundraiser at the fellowship hall.  The church is located below the Avery County Airport on Brushy Creek Road.

May 30, 2015 – 5 pm to 8 pm – There will be a Silent Auction in memory of Peyton Taylor Buchanan on Saturday, May 30, at Pineola Bapt. Church.  All proceeds will go to the family to help them cover medical and other expenses.  There will be many items and a 50/50 raffle.  All are invited and welcome.  Tables will close at 7:15 pm for bids to determine winners.

May 30, 2015 – 5 pm – There will be a Rook Tournament Fundraiser for Avery High School FBLA.  This will be held in the Gym at Avery High School beginning at 5 pm. Cost will be $5/person, $10/team.  All proceeds will go to FBLA Programs.  Concessions will be available, for more information contact Tina Hughes at 733-0151

May 31, 2015 – 11 am – First Bapt. Church in Newland will have their spring children’s program, “Down by the Creek Bank” at the church during morning worship.  All are invited. For more information on this and all Children’s programs at FBC Newland contact Jessica Howard at 260-6730

May 31, 2015 – 12:30 to 2:30 pm – Pine Grove UMC Women’s Group will hold a fundraising dinner for missions at the UMC Picnic Pavilion.  Meal will be a cook-out with Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, Potato Salad, Slaw, and all fixin’s, dessert and drinks also provided.  Eat-in or Take Out available for minimum donation of $6/person.  Pine Grove UMC is located in the Ingalls community just off of Mullin Hill Road.

June 1-30, 2015 – The Town of Crossnore will be preforming Smoke Tests in the Sewer System.  The Smoke is non-toxic, odorless, and is not a hazard.  You will see a White or Grey Smoke coming from vent stacks on houses and/or holes in ground. It is advisable for home-owners to pour a gallon of water in drains prior to the testing…The smoke should not enter homes unless there is defective plumbing in the home.  If smoke enters the home the owner is advised to evacuate and contact town authorities

June 4, 2015 – The Taste of Avery event sponsored by the Avery County Chamber of Commerce will take place at the Best Western Mountain Lodge in Banner Elk.  Tickets are on sale now by calling 898-5605

June 5, 2015 – 3:15 to 5:30 pm – Avery Middle School will hold their Spring Fling at the school.  All are welcome to come out and enjoy a fun afternoon of activities, including: Inflatables, Outdoor activities, games, coed 3-on-3 basketball, and concessions.  Rides will be $3/each, with all students who took part in the fall cookie dough fundraiser riding for free.  For more information contact Avery Middle at 733-0145 or if you would like to volunteer.

June 6, 2015 – 10 am – The Avery Baptist Association’s Women’s Ministry United presents the inaugural “The ‘Heartbeat’ of the Home” program at Crossnore Bapt. Church. with guest speaker, Donna Millsaps. June 7, 2015 – 4 pm – The Pineola Ringers will put on a special benefit concert at Pineola Presbyterian Church.  This will be the annual Summer Benefit Concert the group does, and all proceeds collected will go to help Yellow Mountain Enterprises, a vocational program in Newland.  YME serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. June 13-16, 2015 – 6 to 8:30 pm – VBS – Higher Ground Church of God will hold Vacation Bible School at the Church.  This year’s theme is “Gotta Move: Keepin’ in Step with the Spirit.” All are invited.

**September 2015**

TBD – The Avery County Humane Society will hold the 2nd Annual Doggie Fun Walk and 5K Run at Avery County High School  For more information contact the Humane Society at 733-2333, all runners must be signed up by May 30 to receive T-Shirt, cost is $25/participant.
