“Left Behind in the High Country” meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Oak Room of the Sloop Medical Building at Cannon Memorial Hospital. This is a support group for those who have lost a loved one to suicide, for more information contact Sandra Brock at 467-5379.

2019 Newland Car Show Calendar; The Next and final show will be the Trunk or Treat Car Show in Newland from 5 pm to 9 pm, on October 31.

October 13-18, 2019 – 6 pm Sun., 7 pm M-F – REVIVAL – Sandy Flatt Bapt. Church in Blowing Rock is holding revival at the church, all are welcome! Pastor Paul Gentry from Lenoir will be bringing the message, special singing each evening.
October 15, 2019 – 5 to 7 pm – The Avery Men’s Basketball team will hold a fundraising Spaghetti Dinner at Newland First Bapt Church. All invited to come, to go plates available.
October 17, 2019 – 6:30 pm – The Gideons of Avery County will hold their annual Pastor Appreciation Banquet at Crossnore First Bapt. Church, Cards were mailed to the churches for a headcount of the pastors coming, or call Frank Vance at 828-387-6136 to RSVP.
October 18, 2019 – 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm – Freedom Trail Elementary will hold their Annual Fall Festival at the School. All are invited, CLICK HERE for more information
October 18, 2019 – 7 pm until – Cranberry Middle School 8th Grade will hold a bingo fundraiser at the Old Cranberry High School. All proceeds will go to the 8th Grade Trip in the spring. All are invited out!
October 19, 2019 – 11 am to 7 pm – A BBQ Fundraiser for the Hardrock Stamey Memorial Scholarship will take place at Crossnore Bapt. Church in the Gymnasium. All are welcome, all proceeds will go to the Hardrock Stamey Memorail Scholarship Fund. Donations accepted, will include BBQ, Sides, Dessert and Drink.

The event is free to the public, there will be many activities through the day including healthy snacks, games, door prizes and more! The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start.
