Every Sunday afternoon, the HWY 181 Motorcycle Rest Stop Ministry will be open from 12 noon to 6 pm offering refreshments to Bikers passing by.  All welcome to come out, located at the old John Deere Dealership near the Parkway, open May through October.

Blue Ridge Partnership for Children is bringing Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to the High Country.  The program serves children from birth until their 5th birthday, and each registered child will receive a FREE monthly book in the mail.  If you are interested you can register your child online at or call Carrie Hall at 733-2899 and she will assist you in the registration process.

Signups going on now for Men’s and Women’s League Softball at the Avery Parks and Recreation Dept.  Cost is $425/team (Men’s) and $400/team (Women’s).  Come by the Rock Gym for more information or to get a signup sheet, Deadline to sign up is May 10, call 733-8266 for more information.

May 4-5, 2016 – The Town of Elk Park will be picking up Large Trash Items Wed. and Thurs. May 4-5, please have items placed near the street where they can be picked up, anyone with Large Items to pick up will need to call Town Hall at 733-9573 and give them your name and list of items that need to be picked up.

May 6, 2016 – 6 pm – Come roast a hotdog on the bonfire and enjoy a meal with the gang!  Then join in the Crossnore Jam. It all happens Friday, May 6. Roasting starts at 6, and the Jam runs from 7 to 9 PM,  at the Crossnore Meeting House.  Don’t miss out on the fun!

May 7, 2016 – 7 am to 10 am – Altamont UMC will hold their Monthly Outreach Breakfast at the Church.  All proceeds will go to the Fred and Geneva Barber Scholarship. All are invited for great fellowship.

May 7, 2016 – 8:30 am – The Avery County 4H Summer WOW program will hold their fundraising Run for the Clover 5K Color Run; for More information contact Bobbie Willard at 733-8270

May 15-18, 2016 – 6 pm Sun., 7 pm M-W – REVIVAL – Stameytown Bapt. Church will hold revival services at the church; The message will be brought each evening by, Sunday – Mike Rathbone, Monday – Remington Austin, Tuesday – Stetson Stafford, Wednesday – Dan Price.  Pastor Tommy Carver invites everyone to come down.

June 4, 2016 – The 2nd Annual Paws for a Cause 5k and Doggie Walk & Silent Auction will take place at the Avery County Humane Society.  The walk will begin at 10 am at the Shelter, there will be a Silent Auction, face-painting, and more.  For more information call 733-2333
