“Left Behind in the High Country” meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Oak Room of the Sloop Medical Building at Cannon Memorial Hospital. This is a support group for those who have lost a loved one to suicide, for more information contact Sandra Brock at 467-5379.

EVERY WEDNESDAY – 1 pm – Big Meadows Bapt. Church will be in the area of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with their Hot Dog Ministry, “Feeding the Word”. Stop by to get a free hotdog, listen to the Word, and talk with someone about the Gospel.

EXTENDED TO SEPTEMBER 24! – TENT REVIVAL – 7 pm nightly – Victory Baptist Church will hold a Community Tent Revival on Mount Victory (507 Mill Timber Creek Road, Newland), All are invited to come out and worship with them! September 24, 2021 – HOMECOMING – The Avery Vikings will host Draughn High School for Homecoming 2021. Schools will dismiss early for the parade, game time will be 7:30 pm at MacDonald Stadium.

September 25, 2021 – HARVEST FESTIVAL – 10 am to 4  pm – The Town of Newland will host the Harvest Festival on the Riverwalk, many vendors available, music and entertainment. All invited.

September 26, 2021 – Until – REVIVAL – 6 pm Sun, 7 pm M and following – God’s House of Worship in Banner Elk will host revival at the church; Bro. Raymond Spann will bring the message each evening. Pastor Keven Craig and the congregation invite all to join them.

October 2, 2021 – 10 am to 3 pm – The Annual Toy Drive Car Show will take place in Newland, everyone welcome. Call Claude Buchanan for more information at 828-733-3558

October 2, 2021 – 6 pm – FUNDRAISER – Boone & Church Band will hold a fundraising concert at the new Ag. Community Center off Vale Road; proceeds raised will be used to send Ethan Church and Walker Boone to FFA National Competition in Indianapolis. Admission is free, donations accepted. October 4-8, 2021 – 7 pm nightly – REVIVAL – Belview Baptist Church and Pastor Mike Ricker invite everyone to join them for Revival. Bro. Davy Shelton, pastor of Gateway Bapt. Church in Boiling Springs, SC will bring the message each evening.

October 9, 2021 – 4 pm – Buck Stove presents their 50th Anniversary Celebration and Salute to Veterans, Admission is free and all are welcome, bring your own chair; Singing will be The Primitive Quartet, Sideline, and Boone and Church. The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start.  There are many locations throughout the county for folks to attend.  For more information or a full list of the SCOTTIE schedule, contact the Board of Education at 733-6006
