“Left Behind in the High Country” meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Oak Room of the Sloop Medical Building at Cannon Memorial Hospital. This is a support group for those who have lost a loved one to suicide, for more information contact Sandra Brock at 467-5379.

MountainSide Lutheran Church is collecting items for the Avery County Food Bank. The Food Wagon is available to members and visitors of the church to donate items. November 15, 2019 – 7:30 pm – The Avery Viking Football team will host Starmount in the first round of the NCHSAA 1A Football Playoffs.
November 16, 2019 – 4 pm to 7 pm – Fall Creek Bapt. Church will hold a benefit Spaghetti Dinner to benefit Ethan Church and family to help with medical bills being incurred while he is in the hospital. All invited out. CLICK HERE for more information
November 16, 2019 – 6 pm – Johnson’s Chapel Church will hold a benefit singing for Ethan Church and Family to help cover Medical Expenses. Singing will be Second Chance and Justified. All welcome to come out for a great night of fellowship.
November 17, 2019 – Newland Christian Church will hold Thanksgiving meal following the morning worship service at 11 am. All are invited and welcome.
November 19, 2019 – 4 pm – The Avery Viking Basketball teams begin their 2019-20 Basketball season at Home against Ashe Co. JV Girls begin at 4 pm.

November 26, 2019 – 5 pm to 8 pm – The Town of Elk Park will hold their Inaugural Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Town Hall, placed in memory of Calvin Winters. All are welcome for this special event. Families are encouraged to bring an outdoor ornament and come to hang on the tree.

The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start.
