The Avery Pregnancy and Resource Center is expanding their services to the High Country and will be offering classes in Finances, Technology, Cooking and Sewing. If you are interested in any of these courses, contact Bob Brown at 733-2400 or 467-9812.
February 19-24, 2017 – 6 pm nightly – REVIVAL – Open Door Bapt. Church in Elk Park will be holding revival at the church. February 22-26, 2017 – 7 pm nightly – REVIVAL – Emmaus Road Bapt. Church in Spruce Pine, different preachers each evening with special singing.
February 23, 2017 – 6 pm – The Cooperative Extension Service will hold an introduction session for the Community Garden Program for 2017 at the Avery Learning Center of Mayland Community College. For more information call 733-8270
February 25, 2017 – 6 pm – God’s House of Worship in Banner Elk will host a benefit singing for Eric & Jennifer Arnett with the Mt. Calvary Gospel Singers, Morning Star Singers, The Peacemakers, and others, all are invited.
February 26, 2017 – 11 am – Stameytown Baptist Church will have Tommy Burleson at the Church giving his personal testimony at the church, all are welcome.
March 10, 2017 – 6 pm – There will be a lock-in at Newland FBC for kids, for more information contact 733-9092
March 28, 2017 – 7 pm – The Harlem Globetrotters will be in Boone at the Holmes Convocation Center on the Campus of Appalachian State University. For Tickets contact the Box office.

The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start. There are many locations throughout the county for folks to attend. For more information or a full list of the SCOTTIE schedule, contact the Board of Education at 733-6006
Kindergarten registration will be taking place for Avery County Schools in the month of April. Please contact your local elementary school if your child will be 5 years of age on or before August 31, 2017. Dates of registration at each school are as follows. Each registration begins at 8:30 am.
