Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a home repair ministry based out of Johnson City, TN, and will repair homes FREE of charge again this summer for Avery and Mitchell County families! Using volunteer labor and the leadership of summer staff, ASP hopes to work for 12 or more families in the area- so take action to apply now. Every Sunday afternoon, the HWY 181 Motorcycle Rest Stop Ministry will be open from 12 noon to 6 pm offering refreshments to Bikers passing by. All welcome to come out, located at the old John Deere Dealership near the Parkway, open May through October.

July 26-29, 2015 – 6 pm to 8 pm nightly – FBC Newland will hold Vacation Bible School at the Church, The theme will be “Everest” and all are welcome.
August 1, 2015 – 7 to 10 am – Altamont UMC will hold their monthly fellowship breakfast at the Church Outreach Center, all are welcome.
August 1, 2015 – 8 am – The 3rd Annual RAM Golf Tournament at Sugar Mountain Golf Course, $65 per player, includes meal after play, 8 am shot-gun start, four man’s captains choice. Call 733-5127 for more information.
August 2, 2015 – 6 pm – Ivey Heights FWB Church will hold a special singing with The Edwards Family at the church, all are welcome to come, service will start at 6 pm.
August 2, 2015-until – 7 pm nightly – REVIVAL – Pilgrim Bapt. Church in Elk Park will hold revival with Bro. Mike Rathbone, all are welcome to come out, will go on as long as the Lord leads.
August 8, 2015 – 5 pm – The 4th Annual Jim Greene Memorial Scholarship Concert will take place at Avery County High School. Love Offering will be accepted, His Mercies, Ernie Penley, and Skyland Ministries will be bringing the message in song.
August 11, 2015 – 7 pm – The Kruger Brothers will be in concert in Hayes Auditorium on the campus of Lees-McRae College as a fundraiser for the Habitat for Humanity. Mt. Calvary Bapt. Church and Habitat for Humanity welcome everyone out for a great night of fellowship. All proceeds from the evening will go to help build homes for locals. Cost is $30/ticket.
August 15, 2015 – 5 pm – There will be a Special Singing at Jack Hicks trucking in Elk Park, all are invited. Singing will be The Primitive Quartet, The Inspirations, Archie Watkins and Smoky Mountain Reunion, and KC and the Elk Valley Boys. There will be plenty of food, bring a lawn chair and an appetite.
August 15, 2015 – 6 pm – Elk Mountain Church will be holding a special singing with the Mountain Echoes bringing the message in song. All are welcome!
August 17-28, 2015 – 7 pm nightly – The Tri-County Mountain Crusade will take place with Bro. Ralph Sexton preaching nightly. The tent location will be at 231 Skyview Circle in Spruce Pine, just behind Spruce Pine Chevrolet. All are invited to attend.
August 18, 2015 – 6:30 pm – The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Col. John B Palmer Lodge, invites anyone to come out for their meeting at the Burnsville Town Center. All are welcome and they meet the third Tuesday of each month.
August 22, 2015 – 6 pm – Pleasant Hill Bapt. Church will hold their 3rd Annual Youth Rally at the church with Gene Mullis, Jr. and Cody Zorn bringing the message. All are invited and encouraged to attend. For more information call Pastor Allen Laws at 385-1401

TBD – The Avery County Humane Society will hold the 2nd Annual Doggie Fun Walk and 5K Run at Avery County High School For more information contact the Humane Society at 733-2333, all runners must be signed up by May 30 to receive T-Shirt, cost is $25/participant.

The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start. July 31, 2015 – 8 pm until – The Friday Night Lights Kickoff for Fall athletics will take place at Avery County High School. All are invited out for a great night of fellowship and celebration as Avery High Athletics kicks off the 2015 season with this event. The event will kick off with games, food, and music; Football practice will begin at 10 pm as New Head Coach Jason Phelps leads the Vikings into another great season.
August 1, 2015 – Avery County Schools will hold their Back to School Bash at Linville Land Harbor. There will be music, fun, and games; giveaways and school supplies, and much, much more! All are welcome.
