“Left Behind in the High Country” meets the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Oak Room of the Sloop Medical Building at Cannon Memorial Hospital. This is a support group for those who have lost a loved one to suicide, for more information contact Sandra Brock at 467-5379.

November 9 to December 7, 2020 – WREATH SALE – Blue Ridge Partnership for Children is holding a Wreath Sale to raise money to support the Imagination Library; you can purchase a Locally Made, Fraser Fir Wreath for $25, plain, or $30, with a bow. Proceeds will go to provide a free book to children each month from birth to 5 years; call Blue Ridge Partnership for Children to order, 828-733-2899 or 828-682-0047.

November 28, 2020 – 2 pm to 4 pm – The Blue Ridge Partnership for Children will hold a drive thru Letters to Santa even at the Church of Jesus Christ in Newland. Santa will be there to take the letter and give a treat as they come through, for more information contact the Partnership for Children, 828-733-2899 or 828-682-0047

The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start.  There are many locations throughout the county for folks to attend.  For more information or a full list of the SCOTTIE schedule, contact the Board of Education at 733-6006
