Every Sunday afternoon, the HWY 181 Motorcycle Rest Stop Ministry will be open from 12 noon to 6 pm offering refreshments to Bikers passing by. All welcome to come out, located at the old John Deere Dealership near the Parkway, open May through October.
Blue Ridge Partnership for Children is bringing Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to the High Country. The program serves children from birth until their 5th birthday, and each registered child will receive a FREE monthly book in the mail. If you are interested you can register your child online at http://www.imaginationlibrary.com or call Carrie Hall at 733-2899 and she will assist you in the registration process.
Now Through December – There will be a Toy Drive to collect toys for the Children’s Hospital in Johnson City. You can drop off New Toys at Brenda Kays Crafts in Newland; There will be a truck parked in the Ingles Parking Lot in Newland from Dec. 10 until the delivery date (Dec. 17) as well.
October 21-22, 2016 – 6 pm Friday, 8 am Saturday – The Avery Baptist Embrace Program will hold the “1” Step Forward Women’s Conference at Crossnore Bapt. Church; There will be a light dinner on Friday evening followed by Worship and Program from 7 to 9 pm; Saturday, Breakfast at 8 am followed by Worship and Praise with Fellowship and Refreshments to follow. October 22, 2016 – 6:30 pm – There will be a benefit singing at Blevin’s Creek FWB for Macie Brown to help offset her medical costs. The Marksmen Quartet will be in concert and all proceeds will go to Macie’s fight with Cancer. All are welcome.
October 22, 2016 – 7 pm – God’s House of Worship in Banner Elk will have a special singing at the church with Calvary’s Reflection and The Believers. All are invited.
October 22, 2016 – 7 pm – There will be a benefit singing at The People’s Church on Roaring Creek for Libra Hughes, all proceeds will go to help Libra in her health battle. All are invited.
October 23-26, 2016 – 7 pm nightly – REVIVAL – Crossnore Bapt. Church will hold revival at the Church with Rev. David Burton, all are welcome, Wed. evening will be Youth Service, all youth groups are invited to come join.
October 27, 2016 – 10 am to 4 pm – Healthy Halloween 2016 will take place at the Rock Gym in Newland. Sponsored by the Blue Ridge Partnership for Children, all are invited. There will be an American Red Cross Blood Drive at the event from 11 am to 4 pm. For more information contact Carrie Hall at 733-2899.
October 28, 2016 – 4 to 7 pm – Elk Park First Bapt. Church will hold a Spaghetti Dinner to raise funds for their building fund. All are invited. Cost is $7/adult and $4/child.
October 29, 2016 – 8 am – The Annual Halloween Hustle 5k to raise funds for the Avery Yo! program will take place at the Riverwalk in Newland. For more information or to Register for the event contact Bobbi Willard at 733-8275
October 30, 2016 – ALL DAY – Shriner’s Car Show in Roan Mountain behind Post Office, all invited. Motorcycles are welcome, Entry Fee is $20/donation, there will be live music, all proceeds will go to the Roan Mountain Shrine Club.
October 31, 2016 – 5:30 to 7:30 pm – Newland FBC will hold a Trunk or Treat at the Church.
October 31, 2016 – 6 pm to 8 pm – Elk Park Christian Church will hold a Trunk or Treat at the Church, all are welcome.
November 12, 2016 – 10 am to 12 noon – The DAV in Newland will hold an open house for Veterans and their Families to learn more about the DAV and fellowship with fellow veterans.

The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start. There are many locations throughout the county for folks to attend. For more information or a full list of the SCOTTIE schedule, contact the Board of Education at 733-6006
October 20, 2016 – 7 pm – The Avery Viking Football Team will host Madison in Conference action. Please note this is a new date and time for the game, originally scheduled for Oct. 21 at 7:30. This is VARSITY football on Thursday, October 20, at 7 pm at MacDonald Stadium.
October 25, 2016 – Parent/Teacher Conference Day for Avery County Schools, the College and Career Center at Avery High will be open for Seniors and Parents with questions about Colleges and FAFSA.
October 29, 2016 – 9 am to 12 noon – Appalachian State Counselors will be on hand at ACHS to help complete any FAFSA information for Parents and Seniors. Registration is required to attend. Contact the College and Career office at Avery for information on how to register.
