The Avery Pregnancy and Resource Center is expanding their services to the High Country and will be offering classes in Finances, Technology, Cooking and Sewing. If you are interested in any of these courses, contact Bob Brown at 733-2400 or 467-9812.
Fellowship Baptist Church is collecting non-perishable food items and hygiene items to be taken to War, West Virginia in September as part of Project Hope. Contact James Ballew at (828) 208-2033 for more information. Items may be dropped off in the Church Fellowship Hall at anytime or you can have them picked up by calling 733-6444.
Pittman Gap Community Church is raffling off a 2014 Harley Davidson Dyna Street Bob, 13 Original Miles, cost is $100/ticket, and all proceeds go to the building fund for a new fellowship hall. For more information or to purchase a ticket, contact Pastor Cotton Ray at 733-4789.
The Main Street Cruise-In is back in Newland for 2017 as they line Main Street with Classics from 6 to 9 pm on select Fridays. The 2017 Calendar is as follows: July 28, 2017, August 25, 2017, and September 15, 2017; For more information, contact Claude Buchanan at 828-733-3558
The Banner Elk Concert in the Park Series is Back for 2017, concerts are on Thursday Evenings at 6:30 pm at Tate-Evans Park, Robbins Amphitheater: See the Concert Line-up
June 5-until, 2017 – 7 pm nightly – REVIVAL – Yellow Mountain Bapt. Church will hold revival at the church with Brother Randy Metcalf bringing the message during the first week and Bro. Keith Russell bringing the message during the second week. Revival will continue as long as the Lord leads. Mercy’s River will bring message in Song on Sunday, June 11 during the evening service. All are invited.
June 26, 2017 – 11 am to 3 pm – Reaching Avery Ministries/RAM’s Rack will celebrate 35 years of service to the High Country with a Customer Appreciation Day at the store with Hot Dogs, Goodies, and more. All invited to come out!
June 26-30, 2017 – 6 pm to 8 pm – VBS – Pleasant Hill Bapt. Church welcomes all Toddlers to Teens to Vacation Bible School for a great week of fellowship. All invited to come experience life under the sea on a submarine and learn why Jesus is the ONLY redeemer.
June 26-28, 2017 – 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm – VBS – The Avery County Revival Center will be doing Vacation Bible School at the church, the theme will be Hero Central, teaching kids to discover their strength in God, for more information call Hannah Beers Carpenter at 260-5911 or Lynn Stocton at 423-772-4555, all invited.

The Avery County Solid Waste Dept. collection sites will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, and will reopen on Thursday, July 6; The Landfill will be closed Tuesday, July 4, and reopen on Wednesday July 5.
July 1, 2017 – 7 am to 10 am – Altamont UMC will be holding their monthly Breakfast at the church in the outreach center. All are welcome to come out for a great time of fellowship and enjoy all the favorites, including homemade Jams and Jellies.
July 1, 2017 – 12 noon to 4 pm – Elk Park Christian Church will hold their annual Freedom Fest at the Church; There will be food, music, inflatables, and more, all are invited.
July 2, 2017 – 12 noon to 4 pm – The Avery Viking Wrestling Program will hold their 5th Annual BBQ Fundraiser at the Land Harbor Golf House, all proceeds will go to help team go to camp.
July 4, 2017 – 7 am to 11 am – Heaton Christian Church will hold their Annual Country Breakfast on July 4 in the fellowship hall, cost is donation only, all proceeds will go to support the Youth Group in a number of activities. All are welcome.
July 4, 2017 – The Annual July 4th Car Show will take place at Newland Elementary, all are welcome to come out, there will be a trophy for Best in Show and Hundreds of other prizes, for more information contact Claude Buchanan at 733-3558
July 6, 2017 – 8 am to 4 pm – There will be a Masquerade Jewelry and Accessory Sale in the Oak Room at Cannon Memorial Hospital in the Sloop Medical Plaza; Proceeds will go to benefit the Cannon Memorial Hospital Programs, cash, credit/debit, and payroll deduction available.

The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start.
