August 24, 2019 – 2 pm to 5 pm – Newland Christian Church will hold a Community Meal at the Church, meals available at the church or can be delivered, to be added to the delivery list please call 387-5872, all are welcome. Meal is free, donations accepted and any proceeds will go to the Food Pantry ministry of the church.
August 24, 2019 – 7 pm – God’s House of Worship in Banner Elk will hold a special singing at the church, bringing the message in song will be Joyful Noise and Buff Mountain Boys, Everyone is invited!

August 30, 2019 – 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm – The 4H Shooting Sports Club will hold a benefit Spaghetti Dinner to help raise funds for the group. Cost is $8/person, includes: Spaghetti w/ Meat Sauce, Salad, Garlic Bread, Drink and Dessert. Vegan/Vegetarian Options available as well. All are welcome.
August 31, 2019 – 8:30 am start – The Avery County Shriner’s will hold their annual Golf Tournament at Sugar Mountain Golf Course. $60/per player, Mulligans available at $10/for 3. Registration begins at 8 am. All are welcome.

September 7, 2019 – 11 am to 2 pm – First Baptist Church Crossnore is having a Back to School Carnival on Saturday, September 7th from 11am until 2pm. September 8, 2019 – 11 am – Newland Christian Church will hold Homecoming Services at the Church, Dr. Jonathan Casstevens will be bringing the message in both word and song during the morning. There will be a meal to follow in the fellowship hall. All are invited to come and worship.
September 21, 2019 – 2:30 pm – The annual Newland School Reunion will take place at the Rock Gym in Newland. Doors open at 1:30 pm with a short program, door prizes, and a 50/50 drawing (must be present to win) beginning at 2:30. Special recognition to the class of 1968. Anyone welcome who attended Newland School at any time, grades 1-12, taught, worked, or had family who attended. Class photos will be made following the 50/50 drawing. NOTE: Class of 1968 is being honored because last year’s reunion was not held due to inclement weather. Everyone welcome.
September 21, 2019 – 5 pm to 10 pm – The Avery High Class of 1974 will hold their 45th Class Reunion at the Foscoe Grandfather Community Center, Saturday, September 21, cost is $15/person. There will be a class photo at 6 pm, all family and friends are invited, for more information CLICK HERE

The SCOTTIE Mobile Pre-K (click for information) is out and about and if you have a child who would be eligible for the classes but are unable to attend Pre-K, this is a service of the Avery Public School System and Smart Start.
